Questions
MC1.1 – Characterize the attendance at DinoFun World on this weekend. Describe up to twelve different types of groups at the park on this weekend.
a.) How big is this type of group?
b.) Where does this type of group like to go in the park?
c.) How common is this type of group?
d.) What are your other observations about this type of group?
e.) What can you infer about this type of group?
f.) If you were to make one improvement to the park to better meet this group’s needs, what would it be?
Limit your response to no more than 12 images and 1000 words.
- Single people or groups of up to four people, we call "adrenalin junkies" especially like Thrill rides.
In total there are approximately 450 individuals belonging to this very agile and quickly moving group.
We suspect that they are mainly adolescent frieds, who would benefit from seperate single rider queues, as they would need to spend less time waiting then.
On the image you see these people as columns.
The colour denots what they are doing in the timespan selected on the left.
As of the legend on the right hand side red stands for riding Thrill Rides.

-
"Bus tourers" visit the park in very large groups of ~25–40 people, who stay together all day.
The beergarden and the stage show are among the favourite places of these subpopulation encompassing about 1100 individuals.
As they stay together, we think they are guided and organized by a third party service.
Taking that into account they could profit from better communication between park officials and tour guides, for example by sending some tour to the less crowded shows in the morning or making explicit if a show is cancelled.
On the image the area around the show stage is selected. The pink area in the columns mark the stage show.
As you can see on sunday at the time the show should be all visitors of this group go to the show and there is a small highlighted green field.
-
"Families" of 3 to 5 members prefer Kiddie Rides and Rides for Everyone.
They are a large group of roundabout 3000 individuals, that have in general little interest in the football shows.
We assume that they are parents with their children.
As of that they would profit from a higher capacity at the North Entrance, so they need to spend less stressful time waiting to get in.
-
"Vacation tourists" usually stay in group of up to 5 for 3 days, like Thrill Rides and eat in
the park regularily.
There are circa 1800 of them.
They get information on Friday and wait till Sunday to go to a show.
We think they are on holiday.
In general they would profit from cheaper 3-day tickets for youths, but also from better
information material.
On the image you see that they are in the park through all three days.
-
There is a special group we call "Security personal".
These are 8 people, who are in park at all days, staying together and attending each show.
For one person of the group there is a strange pattern on Sunday morning.
We assume they are bodyguards of the football star.
Secondly we assume that they are not in park on Sunday afternoon as the show is cancelled due to the vandalism.
On the image you see that they are in the park on all three days and only walk to the show, stay till the show finished and walk out of the park.
-
"End of week tourists" are 2 to 4 people, who spend their time on Friday to ride attractions.
On Saturday some of these ~350 people go to a show.
We think they are really interested in doing as many rides as possible, not waisting time in queues.
To give them more time to ride park management cold offer them the opportunity to enter the park before one-day visitors on Saturday, say at 7:30 or stay a bit longer on friday evening.
On the image you can see that this group only visits the show on saturday.
-
"Weekend tourists" stay in groups of 2–4.
These approximately 1500 people, too, are mostly interested in any kind of rides.
Some stay only half a day in the morning.
If they watch a show at all, they watch it on Sunday.
On the right hand side of the image you can see other guest staying for the weekend, that do not stay together and are more interested in the football show, just for comparison.
- "Show watchers" are in the park on their own and go to one show every day of their multi-day stay.
There are only ten such presumably fans of the football star.
We guess that they would be very happy being given the possibility of a meet and greet with their idol.
Highlighted in the image is the show and the pavillon.
- The "Retiree bus tour" is a unique group of 30 people that enjoys walking around and shopping on Friday.
They walk extraordinarilly slowly and dislike Kiddie Rides.
As they are in the park on Friday and ride very little rides, we think they are retirees.
A tourist-train could take them from one place to another more comfortably.
- "Medium size groups" are non-special groups of 8–12 individuals spending in general one day in park.
This large group of about 2000 people has very diverse interests and visits all parts of the park.
We suspect that they are groups of friends having a nice day off.
- "Morning visitors" only stay in the park in groups of 3–7 for a short time in the morning.
However some of them are there for more than one day.
In total there are circa 100 of them visiting all kinds of rides, less the show or food stalls.
Virtually all of them are there till Sunday with no respect to when their first day in park was.
They would profit from special half day/morning-tickets.
- The "seldom-riders" are groups of 2 to 4 that do not really like rides.
They are only about 80 basically solely present on Sunday.
While they go for some rides in the morning they almost completely ignore them in the afternoon.
We think they are out for a very relaxed day and would profit from a chill-out area or an all you can eat restaurant.
On the image you can see all attractions highlighted, but not the movement. So, you can see that they walk more than spending time in an attraction.
MC1.2
– Are
there notable differences in the patterns of activity on in the park
across the three days? Please describe the notable difference
you see.
Limit
your response to no more than 3 images and 300 words.äfont>
- On Friday overproportionally many people consult information services.
In general they go there in the early afternoon.
On the other days, for comparison, those who consult a service do so at more different times of the day.
- Over the weekend people spend a lot more time waiting than on Friday.
This is true for Thrills rides 3, 4, 5, 7 and 81.
As you can see in the diagram below (on plot per attraction, 1–32 top left to bottom right not labeled)levels of waiting time (vertical axis, scaled seperately) are lower on Friday (red) than on Saturday (yellow) or Sunday (blue) through the whole day (horizontal axis).

- Most visibly there is no second show on Sunday afternoon.
Nonetheless many people walk to the stage as if they expected a show to take place.
As they realise that there won't be any show, they turn around and go on doing other things.
On the image you can see that the first show on sunday takes place, this is highlighted by the first white rectangle.
The second white rectangle shows the time the second show should take place, but as you can see while the area around the show and the show are selected in the map, there are a lot of people who go there at that time.
MC1.3
– What
anomalies or unusual patterns do you see? Describe no more than 10
anomalies, and prioritize those unusual patterns that you think are
most likely to be relevant to the crime.
Limit
your response to no more than 10 images and 500 words.
- One person (898576) probably loses his phone in Kauf's Lost Canyon Escape at Sunday 10:19:59.
After that time no further data is available.
Orange is mapped to the Rides for everyone and you can see that this guest stays at this attraction till the end of the data.

- One guest (1983765) goes to the pavillion on Sunday, then stays at Smokey Wood BBQ for more than two hours and leaves the park.
Additionally there is movement at two different places between Saturday 20:18:21 and 20:34:36.
We suggest that he could left his device in the Smokey Wood BBQ and could take part at the crime and afterwards picked it up again and left the park.
Highlighted in the image is the area around the Smokey Wood BBQ.

- Speaking about movement recorded at two different positions, this happens for another guest (1600469) on Sunday from 09:00:02 until 09:18:33, too.
Sadly our tool cannot handle this, so there is no nice image.
It was found while trying to enforce a unique index on the database.
- Of the assumed security staff (644885, 1629516, 1781070, 1787551, 1080969, 1600469, 1935406, 521750, 1080969) 1080969 has a jump in data on Sunday morning 09:15:17 to 09:19:40 from positon [18,39] to [28,16].
This jump is highlighted by the white circle around it and visible through the lightness and staturation of the movement color.

- One guest (1187304) is in the park for only 80 minutes on Saturday morning.
After riding Wrightiraptor Mountain twice he heads to Liggement Fix-Me-Up, turns around and rushes out of the park.

- Guest (1690685) goes to the show on Friday 09:51:09 does not move anywhere else, checks in at 13:00:01 and stays to 16:00:27.
Overall he spend more than six hours at the stage witout break.
The white rectangle shows the time he stays in the show area.
He spends all three days in the park, but on Friday he spends nearly all of his time in the show stage.

- Five guests (1937834, 103006, 657863, 1412235, 313073) enter the park on Friday in late afternoon.
They go to Petroglyph Body Art at 17:04:29, where they stay at least until the time no more data is collected.
On saturday 08:00:27 one of them (657863) appears inside the park at [7,43] and walks out of the park.
The white circle shows the reappearing on saturday while all other guests are still missing.

- This group (195087, 2096715, 1614660) also enters the park on Friday in late afternoon, spend 50 minutes at Shilobite o'Pizza, then 40 minutes at Krystal Cook Cafe.
After that they do not appear again.

- On Saturday there is one guest (1725365) who eats six times while being in park.
He visits the pavillion six times, too.
Except that he mostly rides Rides for everyone.
The highlight of the image are the Food attractions.

- One guest (848800) was espacially active on all three days.
He was tracked 6637 times moving at high speed through the park alone.
Besides that he spend a lot of time in attractions.
On the image the movement was highlighted and you can see that green is very small between attractions, so he is walking very fast between different attractions.
